A ductless mini split system

Is a type of air conditioning and heating system that does not require traditional ductwork to distribute conditioned air throughout a space. Instead, it consists of two main components: an outdoor compressor/condenser and one or more indoor air-handling units. These components are connected by a conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain.

1. Flexibility in Installation: Ductless mini split systems are ideal for adding heating and cooling to specific rooms or areas where extending or installing distribution ductwork is not feasible. They are commonly used in home additions, new constructions, apartments, and even historic buildings.

2. Energy Efficiency: Because mini splits do not have ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with ductwork of central forced air systems. Duct losses can account for more than 30% of energy consumption, especially if the ducts are in an unconditioned space such as an attic.

3. Individual Zoning: Each indoor unit can be controlled independently, allowing for personalized temperature settings in different rooms or zones. This capability provides greater control over energy use and comfort.

4. Easy Installation: The installation of a ductless mini split system is generally less invasive and quicker than that of a traditional central air system. Only a small hole is needed to run the conduit through the wall, reducing the risk of air leakage and security concerns associated with larger ductwork openings.

5. Quiet Operation: Mini splits are known for their quiet operation compared to traditional HVAC systems. The compressor, which is the noisiest part of an air conditioner, is located outside, significantly reducing indoor noise.

6. Improved Air Quality: With no ductwork, ductless mini splits typically offer better indoor air quality, as there are no ducts where dust and debris can accumulate and be circulated throughout the home.

Ductless mini split systems offer a versatile and energy-efficient solution for heating and cooling different parts of a building, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial applications.
